Disaster Response and the World Health Organisation (WHO)

Location: PC Browne Room, upstairs in the Horticultural Hall, Hagley Park
Time: November 27 at 05:00pm
Description: The Department of Public Health and General Practice of the University of Otago is hosting a seminar with Dr Alistair Humphrey, Medical Officer of Health in Canterbury. Dr Humphrey was an integral part of the earthquake response effort in 2011 and has returned from a sabbatical, which he spent with the World Health Organisation. The seminar is followed by refreshments and a social gathering.

Fun on bikes at Richmond School

Location: Richmond School
Time: November 10 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Description: ICEcycles final workshop for the year will be held at Richmond School on Saturday November 10. If you don’t have a bicycle or your old one is too far gone you might be lucky and score an ICEcycle recycled bike for yourself or a child. Piko Wholefood’s generous donation of $2000 is sponsoring Pedlemania’s novelty bikes along. The healthy make-your-own sandwiches are courtesy of Community and Public Health. You don’t need a bike or lack of one as an excuse not to go.

Carols in our Park

Location: Packe Street Park community gardens
Time: 5:00pm till 6:00pm
Description: The annual carol singing session in Packe Street Park is planned for Sunday, December 2. Music will be provided by Heather Mitchell Gladstone, The St Albans Community Choir and guests. If the weather is good, bring a picnic but if it is inclement the whole shebang will relocate to Knox Church Hall, 28 Bealey Avenue.

Another council pool in danger of permanent closure

Another CCC-owned swimming pool in in danger of permanent closure and this time it is not the Council at fault.
CERA wants the Centennial Pool site for a children’s summer playground and won’t allow CCC repairs to go ahead. CERA would need to purchase the pool site with taxpayer money from the council to develop the site. Council says its hands are tied, CERA says it’s the council. Political football game anyone?

The Village Green group received a gift from Edgeware Supervalue as part of the supermarket’s community involvement and is working with the city council to draw up a memorandum of understanding over the temporary se of the old Edgeware pool site.
