Meetings with insurance companies

InsuranceWatch has organised a couple of meetings with insurance companies in the next few weeks.

The Lumley cluster meeting will be held at the EFK Samoan Church hall, 9 Vili Place, Woolston on Thursday 25 October at 7pm. This meeting is open to all Lumley policy holders in Christchurch. The AMI / Southern Response Meeting will be held at the same place on: Wednesday November 7 at 7:00pm sharp, Gold coin much appreciated to contribute to costs.

Free financial advice extended to green zoners

Struggling to cope financially after the earthquakes? Financial advice offered to red zoners has now been extended to those in the green zone coping with decisions regarding moving, repairs etc.

The Commission for Retirement and Financial Literacy has also produced a useful booklet Understanding Your Financial Situation and Options – after the Canterbury earthquakes, which is available from CERA earthquake hubs and other government agencies and community organisations in Canterbury as well as online at www.sorted.org.nz/canterbury.

Chippenham to be restored

In a city where demolitions of older buildings seem to be a daily occurrence comes this news reported in the Press of the planned restoration of Chippenhnam.

Built in the 1860s, the two storey brick house has been owned by a commune since the 1960s. The building once housed Labour Cabinet Minister Marion Hobbs and was the birthplace in New Zealand of Greenpeace and the Women’s Refuge movement.

It’s a busy weekend, this Labour Weekend. The East is building a festival around the Avon River, Indians are celebrating Diwali with food, music and dance at the CBS complex, the Festival of Transitional Architecture will light up the inner city and Orton Bradley Park has an open day on Sunday.

Oak trees removed for safety’s sake

A couple of large oaks near the flying fox in St Albans Park will be removed just after Labour Weekend because of health and safety concerns. Additional maintenance work by city council staff is also being carried out in other parts of the park at the same time.
