The 2011 Lincoln University State of the Nation’s Environment Address

The 2011 Lincoln University State of the Nation’s Environment Address is taking place on Wednesday 14th September, 5.00pm in Stewart Lecture Theatre 1.

Professor Bob Evans from the School of Social Science, University of Waikato will present: “Fair shares, self interest and environmental planning, will New Zealand cope with the challenges of the 21st century?

Our world is changing rapidly, more so than most of us appreciate. We continue to make ever-increasing demands on our environment, and yet our global resources are diminishing. In this lecture, Professor Bob Evans will argue that environmental planning in New Zealand (and elsewhere) needs to be guided by principles of equity and sustainability, reflecting the need for the world’s prosperous nations to recognise that it is in their long-term self-interest to reconsider current development trajectories and to ‘think globally and act locally’.
