History repeating – St Albans Dump!

Dear Community Board
I would like it recorded the St Albans Residents Association strongly oppose the Canterbury Earthquake (Resource Management Act Permitted Activities)  Order 2011 for a company called CERES NEW Zealand LLC for the property at 45  McFaddens Road.
This is a residential area backing onto a school, across the road from a childcare facility, a local church and one of the only standing community meeting spaces in St Albans.  The air and noise pollution will have negative effects on the residents.  The heavy trucks moving around in the local roads will cause further stress to the already fragile roading and will increase the unease of residents whose’s houses shake with every fast moving and/or large truck as well as decreasing the safety of children in the area.
The longterm effects of dumping/storing waste in residental areas are already well known in St Albans and in fact Christchurch, NZ and the rest of the world.  St Albans is still dealing with the land contaminated from the waste management of 100 years ago.
The order it would seem is only part of the bigger ongoing issue of the zoning of the area.
We would like to see this order declined and the zonings, roading plans etc, for the area to be openly discussed with the community and some big picutre planning done on this area of the city.  We do not want to see St Albans used as a demolition and construction depot nor do we want the continued dominance of vehicular movement in our residental area.
Yours
Emma Twaddell
Chair, St Albans Residents Association
