Environment Canterbury is proposing a redesign of the Metro Bus system to reflect the fact that more people are now working in the suburbs and is seeking feedback on the planned changes by August 3.
Good transport links to the central city will be retained for future reopening of the CBD but in the meantime the new system will rely on a series of hubs around the city, making it easier to go across the city without going into the central exchange.
The number 14 bus route will be replaced under the proposed plan by the number 28 bus which will travel down Cranford to Papanui from the central city every quarter of an hour at peak time, leaving from Lyttelton instead of Cashmere. The number 16 bus is no longer running.
The Marshlands 46 bus will become 132 and will still do the loop from Burwood Road, round Lake Terrace Road, to The Palms, through Emmett Street, Innes to Flockton. The plan is to travel down Edgeware Road, providing a connection to other services going to Northlands and on to Bishopdale. This will run hourly.
Environment Canterbury wants to know what you think. Fill out the online feedback form on the Metro website or email metroreview@ecan.govt. nz or phone 366 8855 and they will send you out a feedback from but you will need to be quick as submissions closed on Friday, August 3.
Changes are expected to take place later this year.
