Seeking new models for aged care

Ideas are being sought from people already over the age of 65 for new ways to look after our aging population. Ideas will be compiled into a report, minus identifying information, and used to support improvements in aged care.

The project is being co-ordinated by Registered Nurse, Gillian Robinson from Healthcare Compliance Solutions Ltd.

“It appears clear that the models of care we have currently are not going to keep up with the demand coming for aged care whether in the community or residential care so before new models are put in place let’s hear from you; what would you like? ”

Gillian wants to hear from older people and their families ideas on how to meet their care needs.

“I have a dream that New Zealand is able to meet the needs and wants of our ageing population. What are the changes that we need to make in meeting older people’s needs? I would love to hear from those in our community that may be worried about how their health and support needs will be met in their latter years. As Nurses we talk in aged care about ‘person-centred care’. Our ageing population should have the greatest input into what that care looks and feels like as you are the people at the centre of the care we are providing. I want to know your fears and hopes for your latter years so we truely can go beyond just talking about person-centred care but actually achieve it.”
