If you have some spare time after October 29, help set up the new Pallet Pavilions music venue on the site of the demolished Crowne Plaza Hotel (also known as the Parkroyal in a previous era) at the corner of Kilmore and Durham Streets.
Graduate Landscape Architect Kirsten O’Connor, along with some recent graduates, has done all the thinking and designing of the interior and planting and now needs help to make it a reality. The old pallets used to pack items for moving are being used to build the “walls” of the Pavilion. If you have planting or building skills (or even if you don’t) there will be something you can do for a few hours or more.
It’s a big project -the first Gapfiller project to require resource consent -so needs plenty of hands to lighten the workload. Work will be carried out, morning, afternoon and evening from October 29 to November 17. Hopefully, the midnight oil will be saved for when the venue is open during the summer for use as a music and community venue.
Contact Kirsten via email pavilion@gapfiller.org.nz and to find out more about what is going on, the Gapfiller website will “fill” you in.
