EQC is about to do more drilling around Christchurch streets, only this time it will be to gather data about soil composition and land damage and not about foundations.
Drilling will occur either on the roadside berm or on properties and is likely to affect properties that were not included in EQC’s recent TC3 foundation damage drilling programme.
“Drilling in your neighbourhood doesn’t necessarily mean you have land damage,” says Zac Berry, head of land settlement for EQC, “but it will help EQC build up a more detailed understanding of the land in each neighbourhood and how it has been affected.”
The drilling programme relating to TC3 foundation is almost complete, freeing up resources to investigate soil composition in areas where land may have been damaged. Drilling for foundations was expected to be completed by March next year but is now likely to be substantially completed by Christmas.
The drilling programme covers homes with damage assessed as under cap ($100,000 plus GST in any one event) requiring foundation repair that is subject to local council consent.
EQC has pledged that all homes with damage over $50,000 (and under $100,000) will be repaired by the end of 2013; and all homes with damage under $50,000 will be repaired by the end of 2015.
