What happens if the land my home is on is damaged?

Standard cover is for the land under your home, the land within 8 metres of your home, and the land of the main accessway up to 60 metres from your home. EQC will pay the value of your damaged land as it was before the earthquake, or the repair cost of the land; whichever is the lower.

The application of EQC’s cover for land can be quite complicated and we believe it best in the current circumstances to meet with communities and individuals to discuss their particular situations and to look for both collective and individual solutions .

These solutions will be based on expert advice on the state of the land and whether or not it can be repaired. These will be looked at in consultation with your local council.
