League game for Rugby Park

Rugby Park will host its first rugby league game ever when the St Albans ground hosts the Canterbury Rugby League grand final on August 11.

The AMI stadium at Addington was built on Rugby League Park but even though League could have used the stadium, it was considered too big/expensive for the final.

Rugby League began in Christchurch in 1912 but until 1996 was at odds with the other code (Rugby).

Rugby Park is the training base for the Crusaders and Canterbury teams and also hosts representative games for Canterbury Metro, Colts, Maori and women’s teams.
