Emma Twaddell named local hero

Emma Twaddell kept the St Albans Residents Association going through the earthquakes and political fallout in its wake. Her work was rewarded recently when she was one of 15 Christchurch people who was named a Kiwibank Local Hero.

SARA lost office space and paid workers when the Community Centre was badly damaged in September 2010 – and has yet to recover – so she has worked tirelessly and unpaid ever since.
She received a medal at a ceremony where medals were presented by city councillor Paul Lonsdale and MP Ruth Dyson. Also recognised were Flatman, a former student who made up food and other parcels and dropped in on flats have a hard time. No one knows who he is as he is, as like the cartoon superheroes, he is always masked in public.
