Earthquake community group CanCERN is seeking hard evidence of people being forced to cash settle with EQC.
This mainly effects those in the $15,000 – $100,000 bracket, who would normally have a managed repair. Evidence such as emails, letters, reports is needed to prove this is happening so that something can be done to ensure intimidation or coercion does not happen.
“What we need is hard evidence rather than anecdotal experiences,” says CanCERN spokesperson Leanne Curtis. “If you know of others who may want to share their evidence with CanCERN, please pass this message onto them.”
Email Leanne at leanne@cancern.org.nz or phone 0276555665.
At its December Board meeting, EQC Chief Executive Ian Simpson reassured CanCERN that, “in no circumstance will a customer who has been waiting three years for a managed repair be cash settled (unless the customer agrees).”
