Offers of help trickle in

The local branch of St Vincent de Paul and the Parish Office at Our Lady of Fatima wants to do some baking for residents in the Flockton Basin affected by multiple bouts of flooding.

Carrick Street resident and Flockton Basin organiser Jo Bryne is asking residents to nominate their neighbours for the baking, which will probably be delivered on Tuesday. Well, to those who are left soldiering on, as many have left their flooded homes to stay elsewhere.

“They also have a small amount of money available for people needing financial support, not just parishioners but for anyone in our neighbourhood who needs support. I know many of us are stressed financially,” Jo says.

Volunteers are keeping the area tidy by mowing lawns and perhaps a volunteer may turn up armed with a rake to clear up autumn leaves, as there is a fear they increase the flood risk by blocking drains etc.
