St Albans Swimming Club prizegiving

The St Albans Swim Club finished a very successful season of Learn to Swim lessons at Shirley Intermediate school recently, with a Tryathlon for three different age levels.

The Tryathlon was held in the school grounds, beginning with a cycle course, followed by a run around the same course then a swim of either a width or length of the pool with all competitors receiving a Finishers certificate. With the temperature reaching 30 degrees the competitiors were well rewarded after the event with a swim and a barbecue.

Progress certificates were awarded to all pupils as a record of their progress during the 10 week season. Trophies and cups, some dating back to 1930 were also presented, with the Brian Gardner Best Effort trophy awarded this year to Jarkwyn Munroe for his perseverance and great progress.
The swimming coaches and pool duty volunteers were thanked for their work during the season. The Committee are grateful to the Shirley Intermediate school for their efforts in maintaining the pool and accommodating the Club.

The Swim Club will form part of a Trust to take over ownership of the old Edgeware Pool site and to fundraise for a new Community pool. The Committee will be pleased to receive of offers of assistance or ideas towards achieving this goal. Contact: paul.valerie@actrix.co.nz or 3556512
