Community groups in Shirley/Papanui (which of course includes St Albans) planning events at the end of October can apply to the Community Board before the end of August for some funding to help run the event. Neighbourhood Week is being held this year from 27 October to 4 November 2012
Read on for details about how to apply for the funding and the criteria the community board will be applying.
Christchurch City Council is currently promoting Neighbourhood Week 2012. Neighbourhood Week is all about communities where people support each other, keep an eye out for each other and give each other a helping hand.
As part of its support for Neighbourhood Week, your local Community Board is making small subsidies available. Subsidies are available for reimbursement after the event and following the presentation and approval of receipts.
PLEASE NOTE: The Shirley/Papanui Community Board has set its own specific criteria for applications received for small subsidies in the Shirley/Papanui Ward area. They are:
- Funding should be primarily for the purchase of food for BBQ’s and sausage sizzles etc.
- Items fitting broadly into the “entertainment” category such as bouncy castles, musicians and the like may not be funded.
- While the hire of games could be deemed “entertainment”, the hire of such games as pétanque and cricket might, however, be considered.
- For events with a focus on environmental outcomes, equipment and material hire (excluding trailers) might be funded, as might skip hire and dumping fees. Petrol will however not be funded.
- As in all other wards, funding is not granted for alcohol or fireworks.
The Board encourages communities to work together to run their small events where possible, and encourages small events that support positive environmental outcomes within neighbourhoods.
If you are interested, or know of others who may like to apply, please visit the city council website for the guidelines and to access the application form, for details on how to participate and ideas for getting involved. Applications close Friday, 31 August 2012 at 5pm.
You can submit your application by email to: mailto:neighbourhoodweek@ccc.govt.nz
Or post to: Neighbourhood Week, Christchurch City Council, PO Box 73023, Christchurch 8154
If your event is to be in a public space, e.g. a local park or reserve, you need to contact Christchurch City Council Bookings on 941 8888 to check availability and provide information about your event. This information may include a Health and Safety Plan or other event details. If you are holding your event in a public place within an area that is covered by the alcohol free bylaw, then you may not have any alcohol present.
