Foundations for houses in TC3 areas may be buoyant in future if an idea from a company called Ground Anchorages is accepted.
The proposed foundation system provides protection against ground motion-induced damage, liquefaction including lateral spreading and tsunamis. It uses segmental construction, post tensioning and securing voids to help create buoyancy.
The idea is currently being circulated around TC3 communities and is being presented at conferences in Japan and Auckland.
There will be other ideas for resilient foundations doing the rounds.
