Northern Motorway back on agenda

Plans are being made for a new section to be added to the Northern Motorway to link the Waimakariri River Bridge area with QEII Drive bringing fast moving traffic in and out of the city.

The proposed Northern Arterial is a new four-lane, median-separated state highway that will connect with the existing Christchurch Northern Motorway, south of the Waimakariri River bridges, and pass to the east of Belfast and Redwood connecting with QEII Drive near Winters Road. As part of this project QEII Drive will also be four-laned, between Main North Road and Innes Road to ensure traffic from the Northern Arterial flows freely.

Keep an eye on this website for more information. There is some uncertainty as to where traffic will go after the the motorway runs out and concerns have been expressed about traffic coming through St Albans, in particular via Cranford Street.
