Hunger strike protests insurance delays

After repeated delays from his insurance company over the past 30 months West Melton resident Jerry Larason has gone on hunger strike. STOP PRESS:The strike was over almost as soon as it started when the insurance company came up with a cash settlement.

He has had enough battling State Insurance for full replacement cost. The most recent delay is because earlier delays have rendered an engineer’s report out of date.

There is a worry that ongoing delays will result in drastic actions by more frustrated people.

Jerry’s story is told on the website of Sarah Miles, who wrote the book Christchurch Fiasco about the insurance industry and what they have been doing (or not doing) to homeowners in this city.
