There are nine categories of land damage. These refer to the type of damage and do not indicate levels of damage. They are:
- Land cracking caused by lateral spreading
- Land cracking caused by oscillation movements
- Undulating land
- Local ponding
- Local settlement causing drainage issues
- Groundwater springs
- Inundation by ejected sand and silt
- Increased liquefaction vulnerability
- Increased flooding vulnerability
