Community Garden City

The growing community garden movement in Christchurch could take a lead in recreating Christchurch as a “community garden city.” The Avon River Park, the red-zoned lands, the damaged sports fields and the “green frame” all have rich food-growing opportunities to offer in our fractured, needy post-quake city.

These ideas and more will be discussed on Easter Sunday when the Community Gardens Association hosts a forum on at the New Brighton Community Gardens in Shaw Avenue. The Open Space Forum will discuss how the growing community garden movement could take a lead in recreating Christchurch. The Open Space will be facilitated by Margaret Jefferies from Project Lyttelton, on behalf of the Canterbury Community Gardens Association but is open for anyone with an interest in gardening. Laptop computers helpful. Good brain food will be provided and a koha would be appreciated.

The Forum runs from 2pm to 5pm on March 31.

To enrol e-mail secretary@communitygardens.org.nz or telephone 021 122 7638 or 03 326 6927, leaving your name and contact number before March 17.
