Earthship house made from rubbish

Christchurch’s first ‘Earthship’ will be revealed at a public open day at Tussock Hill Vineyard from 10am to 1pm on March 16.

American architect, Michael Reynolds, creator of the global earthship phenomenon and the subject of the award winning documentary ‘Garbage Warrior’ will be on site at 210 Huntsbury Ave to answer questions.

Attendees at a three day workshop have been constructing the demonstration earthship out of tyres, bottles, cans and conventional building materials, under the supervision. Earthships are the ultimate in environmentally sustainable housing – being made out of rubbish and also being entirely off-grid.
