The company developing the Orion site in Madras Street as a temporary work camp for rebuilders has called the whole thing off.
Not because of opposition -there has been little openly expressed in St Albans- but because of lack of demand from rebuild companies to house their workers. Without their commitment, developers of the site cannot go ahead.
Some companies have bought readymade complexes such as camping grounds with cabins. But migrant workers seem to prefer home comforts and contact with locals, which will be good news to those who offer home stays. Read more about it in this Press article .
