Surface flooding in St Albans June 17

Continuous rain since late Saturday is putting pressure on the storm water system in St Albans and other parts of Christchurch.

Surface flooding was reported to be particularly bad in Edgeware Road, between Madras and Barbadoes Street and in Warrington Street near the discount dairy.

The floods can hide potholes making it extra dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians. Long gumboots and SUVs are part of the survival kit.

Weather forecasts suggest that more rain is on its way on Wednesday and snow down to sea level is forecast for Thursday. Let’s hope that the Blue Skies forecaster is wrong when he says that the conditions are similar to late August 1992 when there was a once in 20 year snowfall and is predicting something similar.
