Christchurch city pollution readings have breached the maximum readings 11 times this year already. Readings have been taken in Cole Street, St Albans since 1988 and Woolston since 2005 and so far this winter between 4 and 29 days of excessive readings have been recorded. The main cause of high readings in St Albans is combustion.
