Floor level survey quality questioned

A surveyor is questioning the quality and qualifications of those charged with assessing floor levels for earthquake damage and fears that homeowners will be disadvantaged.

If a floor level change is less than 50mm EQC/insurance companies are saying the building is not damaged. They do not have to relevel the floor and it is left to the homeowner.

The accuracy of the measuring tools is being called into question and measurements can be wildly inaccurate. Staff carrying out the surveys for eqc and insurance companies are often not qualified, spend much less time on the job than a qualified surveyor and their tools have not been verified according to Adam Cowie, a qualified surveyor from Topografo.

Conspiracy or incompetence? Cutting corners to speed up the process to save money? Whistleblower or whinger? Are we being hoodwinked? You can read Adam Cowie’s report here and judge for yourself.
