Transitional centre deemed a hazard

The old community centre was an earthquake hazard, red stickered in 2010 and later demolished and now apparently the transitional St Albans Community Centre has been deemed a hazard by the very body that has been tasked with looking after it.

The article in the Christchurch Star also made mention of several other buildings, mostly residential that have been issued Section 72 notices. It could affect their resale.

The article did not say why the centre in particular was a hazard but the other places were deemed hazards because of potential flooding. Parts of the city are lower than they were before the quakes and are more prone to flooding.

The information has been placed on the title and will probably mean any replacement for the centre will require higher foundations to mitigate any flooding.

Sounds a bit strange -in the floods in June the area around Peter Timms shop flooded but not the transitional centre. And why just five buildings?
