CCC decides no public hearings for Edgeware Plan

No public hearings will be held for the draft Edgeware Master Plan Plan because 89 per cent of submissions are in favour of it.

The Shirley Papanui Community Board recommended that such hearings were not necessary because of the plan’s popularity and the city councillors accepted this recommendation.

The Draft Master Plan was available for public comment from March 4 to April 10. It received 75 submissions, with 30 of these submitters asking to be heard. Of the submitters, 89 per cent agreed with the overall direction, vision and goals of the Draft Plan.

Urban Design and Regeneration Unit Manager Carolyn Ingles indicated that holding a public hearing will speed up the process to get the Plan finalised and brought back to the Council for its final sign-off.

According to Mayor Bob Parker the decision not to hold hearings signals a vote of confidence in the Draft Plan. The Master Plan will provide ” a platform to guide and support the rebuild and recovery of affected buildings and businesses in Edgeware Village centre. I am confident that this local centre has a promising future; and I look forward to seeing it fulfil its potential,” he says.

Amendments will now be made to the plan following consideration of the written submissions. It is expected that the Plan will be adopted in late 2013.
