Free repairs for some EQ homes

Community organisation CanCERN is co-ordinating a Find and Fix project to discover and temporarily repair 900+ badly damaged earthquake homes before winter.

Red-vested Red Cross workers are doing the legwork, door knocking from next Monday and contractors will be hired to do the repair work ‘on the spot.’ The work is designed to make the homes warm, dry and safe before winter, the fourth since the February 2011 quake.

The temporary repairs will have no effect on insurance claims, CanCERN’s Leanne Curtis told TV3 reporter Jendy Harper when she visited the home of St Albans resident, Maria.

The 900 figure is an estimate.
