EQC expects that most of the 29,500 multi-unit dwellings will be settled by the end of 2014.
It has already settled half of them and has settlement paths worked out for another 47 per cent. This leaves a very tricky 3 per cent to be dealt with in 2015.
Multi unit buildings include flats, apartments with body corporates, townhouses etc, often with multiple owners, multiple insurance companies, dealing with multiple earthquakes and apportionment.
EQC says such units have had more in depth reviews and assessment. That might have happened to some but for some there has been no contact since October 2011.
Settlement paths include cash settlements, repair through the Canterbury Repair programme or a referral to the private insurer.
