The Christchurch City Council has issued a warning that rain, which started falling on Thursday afternoon, could cause some flooding around the city, in particular low lying areas like the Flockton Basin.
Around 70mm is expected in the city overnight, but this is half of what will fall on the foothills. The rain is the tail end of Cyclone Ita.
If it starts coming up the driveway, use the sandbags supplied last time or make your own. Keep the city council informed about what is going on in your street in case they need to close the roads. Avoid contact with the water, which could be contaminated by sewerage. Instructions from the Canterbury District Health Board on how to deal with the clean up are in the latest edition of St Albans News, distributed this week.
Keep warm and dry and contact CanCERN to see if they can help organise fixes for some earthquake damage e.g.: doors that won’t close or wonky windows.
