Lindon Boyce – Central Ward candidate

Lindon Boyce is a candidate for the Central Ward who grew up in St Albans. He wrote a long piece for inclusion in St Albans News, too long, so it had to be severely trimmed. Here is the full version of what he wrote:

My name Is Lindon Boyce. Some people get this confused with Brendon so just call me “Boycey”.

Im a 48 year old Transport Operator / Earthworks Contractor, Christchurch born and bred.

I’m running for Christchurch City Councillor and Community Board for the Central ward in the next elections.

I’m no Politician and I’m certainly not PC, if there was a name for the complete opposite of this that could actually be printed here without prosecution, well then that’s me so I’m not going to bore you with words like “Change, Hope and Dreams” etc.. I’m not that person.

My putting my hand up to run for the Council all started over a conversation a few months ago over a beer about the Edgeware Swimming pool with another resident, should it be built or shouldn’t it what was happening with it, what the cost was going to be (how much!??) and how it would benefit the community.
It was an interesting conversation and at times got quite “heated” and although I respect his opinion, I’m quite passionate about mine but I’m wise enough to know people do have their own opinions and sometimes you just have to listen and compromise.

I was born and raised in the area, as a kid I lived in Durham St, Thames and then Malvern St. I went to Mairehau kindergarten and Primary School and along with my best friend Paul Dyer we would bike everyday (whenever it was open and not freezing) to the pool, create havoc and have a really good go at seeing how many of the rules we could break. If we weren’t doing that we were across the road at Hobdays doing the same. Being a kid then was cool.

I loved my life as a kid here, we had fun safety and freedom and I just don’t know if we have that anymore?, there’s just so much over legislation and rules these days that just don’t make sense. Who makes these rules and regulations and why!?

Over the years I have had a lot of history working within the Council on various things including a number of years where I was a Security Contractor, my main client was funny enough the CCC, protecting Council assets, and a lot of what I was doing at the time just didn’t make sense, it was expensive and plain dumb.
It didn’t take long to figure out that the dumb stuff was coming from the people above who when they thought of these great ideas was a good at the time but they didn’t have the actual knowledge and real life experience to make it work in the real world

So now we all have the opportunity to change things, you by voting and me by doing what I said I would.

We now have the real opportunity to change things for the better that were probably at first well meant but just don’t or wont work in the real world and get things built like a Community swimming pool for which I am very much for. As a contractor I’ve actually built a few of them so I do have the experience and with your vote I might even get the power as well to get it done, we all know there’s going to have to be compromise.

There are of course many other reasons im running for Councillor and the Community board, the Parking unit is on my sht list along with taggers and boy racers but I’ve run out of space to talk about this now.

I’ll be going for a beer at Baileys to meet you soon, come down and say Hi.

See you soon
Boycey
