Filmshow to help reunite refugees

A recently formed trust calling itself ReUnite is holding a film showing at the Hollywood Cinema on August 27 to raise funds to bring a Sudanese family to New Zealand. The family has been separated for more than 15 years.

The film is called Le Havre and the showing begins at 7pm. Tickets cost $20 each and will help raise the $20,000 needed to purchase the plane tickets.

ReUnite Trust (Canterbury) was established to assist refugee families with the cost of bringing family members to New Zealand once they have been approved for residence by Immigration New Zealand.

One of the biggest barriers to successful resettlement is the refugee’s concern for family members left behind, often in precarious circumstances and in danger from famine, war and unrest. Reunification with family members is key to successful resettlement and is a major factor for health, wellbeing and participation. ReUnite Trust believes that no refugee family should be kept apart due to an inability to fund a one-way plane ticket to safety.
