Christchurch East MP Lianne Dalziel has finally announced that she is seeking the Christchurch Mayoralty in October.
But unlike a previous politician who sought the mayoralty in 2010, she won’t try to do two jobs. She plans to resign her Parliamentary position and this will cause a by-election in Christchurch East. There is no news though on when a resignation would occur, let alone timing for a by-election.
The official announcement culminates months of “will she or won’t she” rumours.
Lianne has been prominent in Christchurch for her work in earthquake recovery, bringing a unique perspective to that role because of her own personal housing battles.
The current incumbent, Bob Parker, announced his intentions to run again several months ago.
