Te Waipounamu marae film tour
Location: Rehua Marae, 79 Springfield Rd
Time: November 25, from 6-7.30pm. Entry by gold coin donation
Description: A chance to see films from the film archive, mostly featuring Ngai Tahu.
Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision (formerly known as the National Film Archive) and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga present a programme of over 20 moving image excerpts celebrating Ngāi Tahu history, including some of the earliest surviving Ngāi Tahu films. The programme is composed of home movie, newsreel, and television footage.

Paddling pool opens for summer
The paddling pool in Abberley Park opens this weekend (Show weekend) for the summer season. It will remain open until Easter 2015. Take a picnic and enjoy the Park and supervise your toddlers in the pool as there are no lifeguards or staff rostered on to look after it.

Affordable swimming lessons
The St Albans swimming club is offering affordable swimming lessons in Shirley Intermediate School’s laned, heated pool. The club is family friendly and often runs a barbecue at the lessons. The lessons run from Monday to Thursdays, from 4-5.30pm. For more information email: paul.valerie@actrix.co.nz

Monster Fair at St Albans School

Description: St Albans School is holding a monster fair and is looking for donations of toys, puzzles, games etc, which can be left in the school office. The community is welcome to attend this late afternoon event.

Residents Assn gifted converted garage
The St Albans Residents Association (SARA) has been kindly gifted a beautifully converted garage by START Healing.
It will be used to house a community co-ordinator and NeighbourNet as well as providing a drop in centre for local residents.

Afternoon tea party at Packe Street Park

Description: As part of Neighbourhood Week 2014, Packe Street Park is organising an afternoon tea and tour of the Park and Community Garden, for friends and neighbours. The event is supported by the Shirley/Papanui Community Board and hosted by Packe Street Park and Community Garden Inc. Children are very welcome.

Increased liquefaction vulnerability
Some properties in Christchurch are at increased risk of liquefaction happening as a consequence of the earthquakes. Mike Jacka from Tonkin and Taylor talks about identifying such land and how properties were assessed for this type of land damage at a series of seminars run by In the Know Land Hub. The seminar at Beulah Church is being held on October 14 from 6-7pm and repeated on October 15 from 11 am- 12 noon.

Red Cross at work in Christchurch
