Future quake claimants forced to accept less

Fears have been expressed by current red zoners that future earthquake claimants around New Zealand will be forced to accept repairs or take expensive court action to enforce their rights to replacement.

Brooklands resident Olly Ohlson is hitting the airwaves on Thursday to warn that the treatment he, and others, have received at the hands of insurers could be the way claimants, whose houses should receive replacement costs, are treated in future. Watch Jo Kane’s show on CTV on Thursday.

Red Cross website aids Canterbury youth

New Zealand Red Cross has launched a brand new website to provide young people in Canterbury with coping skills after the earthquakes.

The site Address the Stress provides video messages from sports heroes,musicians, comedians and actors. Although aimed atyoung people dealing with the Canterbury quakes, the advice contained on it can be applied to any natural disaster.

Part of Purchas Street closed

The section of Purchas Street between Geraldine and Barbadoes Street will be closed to traffic for four or five weeks from November 5 while SCIRT fix the pipes.

Detours will be required. The intersections to those streets will also be narrowed while the work is carried out.

Work on Huggins Place

Work begins on wastewater pipeline and lateral replacement in Huggins Place on Monday, beginning from the Hills Road entrance and finishing at the end of the cul de sac.

Daytime access to the street will be limited for six weeks to enable the work to take place. Work is expected to be completed before Christmas.
